Kirby, Kibbie Ann

Kibbie Ann Kirby was born at Liberty Grove during 1858. Her father, Benjamin Coy Kirby had arrived in a covered wagon only four years earlier. The caravan of ten or eleven wagons traveled from Kentucky via Memphis to Little Rock and then on to the Liberty Grove and Pleasant Valley area. As far as we know, all of the wagons arrived safely in the fall of 1854.

Parents of Kibbie Ann Kirby were Benjamin Coy and Elizabeth (Nancy) McDaniel Kirby. Benjamin Coy Kirby was born September 25, 1814 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Nancy, born in Missouri and January 28, 1829, was the first born child of William and Polly McDaniel (cousins). The McDaniels had settled in Lamar County (Paris),Texas, but four of their nine children married settlers from Liberty Grove and Pleasant Valley. See biographical sketch on William McDaniel.

Kibbie Ann Kirby had blossomed into a beautiful young woman by her seventh birthday, and Joshua Lawrence Herring, of Sachse, had asked for her hand. The two were united in marriage during 1875 and made their home at Sachse.

Parents of Josh Herring were Daniel and Mary Deck Herring. Daniel Herring, Jr was born march 4, 1812 in South Carolina and Mary Deck was born March 7, 1815 in Illinois. Daniel along with his wife, mother and four children settled near Sachse during 1847.

Children of Kibbie and Josh Herring were namely Mary Elizabeth "Mollie" who married J. K. "Jig" Sachse; Jim who married Nettie Louise Sachse; John Clinton who married Nellie Ballard; Josie Maye who married Eunice T. McKenney; Garvin Thomas who married Iva Ramsey; J. K.; Kibbie Iona who married Francis Marion Ingram; Nellie Irene who married William Benton Skinner, and Anna Ethel Herring who married Edgar A. Wharton.

Joshua L. Herring died September 6, 1927 and Kibbie Ann Kirby Herring followed on December 9, 1938. Both are buried at Sachse Cemetery.
