Nicodemus, Ivan J

Nicodemus, Ivan J. Ivan J. Nicodemus, 85, a resident of Irving since 1966, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at his home. Born May 26, 1925 in Albion, Indiana to Ivan Edward and Josephine Nicodemus, he was raised in Elkhart, Indiana where he attended public schools, graduating in 1943.

Entering the U.S. Navy, he finished World War II as a Torpedo man in the submarine service. He was awarded the Submarine Combat Pin and was a member of the "Mighty Mine Dodgers" who penetrated the heavily mined Sea of Japan in 1945 aboard the USS Sea Dog. After marrying Marilyn Miller in 1946, he graduated with a B.S. in chemical engineering from Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana. Ivan began work with American Marietta Corp. in 1949 and spent three years in Sao Paulo, Brazil 1960 to 1963. After returning to the U.S., he was employed by Standard T Chemical Co. as a Plant Manager then Vice-President of Research and Development, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Submarine Veterans of World War II, Submarine Veterans, Inc., Sons of American Revolution, Region V.P. National Paint and Coatings Assoc., NRA and National Genealogical Society.

As family historian, he published two books tracing the Nicodemus family genealogy from 1590 Germany to the present. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Ivan Forrest Nicodemus and wife Anna; daughter Elaine Chaney and husband Stephen; grandchildren Brian Nicodemus and wife Cindy, Jeffrey Nicodemus and wife Elizabeth, Victor Chaney and wife Sarah, and Elizabeth Chaney; great grandchildren, Cate, Russell, Grace, and Claire Nicodemus and Stephen Chaney. The family will receive friends at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. Friday. Graveside service to be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Parker Cemetery, Colleyville, TX. Memorial contributions can be made to Irving Healthcare Foundation at Baylor Medical Center at Irving.
