Son of Settler In Peters Colony Dies In Garland

February, 24, 1937

Funeral services for Henderson B. Coyle, 79, native of Dallas County, well-known horticulturist and landowner, who died at his home here Wednesday afternoon, will be held at the Garland Christian Church Thursday at 3:00 p.m. with the pastor, the Rev. C. D. Poston officiating, assisted by Dr. Charles A. Chastain of Dallas. Interment will follow at Mills Cemetery near Garland with the Masons in charge of the service.

Mr. Coyle was born at Rowlett (TX), the son of Henderson Coyle (1833 – 1892), who came to Texas from Carroll County, Arkansas, settling with the Peters Colony, where he took claim to 320 acres of land.

After his father’s death he continued to farm until 1894, when he moved to Garland. He was married to Nancy Matilda Mills December 1, 1878. He was preceded by daughter, Lou Velia Coyle in 1915. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Earl A. Harris (Norah Eboline Coyle), Mrs. L. G. Shipley, Rowlett; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be H. H. James, Guy Bullock, Paul Lander, Harry Alexander, A. R. Davis, W. C. Kingsley and Newt McFarland.
