Davis, Jeanette Chenault

Jeanette Chenault Davis
1839-1926

(Mrs. Jane Davis)

Garland News,
1926

Grandma Davis, who died last week, was born in Indiana 87 years ago, the exact date being lost. She came to Texas at an early age with her parents, the Chenault family, they being one of the first families to settle in Dallas County.

She married John Wesley Davis, a widely known early settler who died a few years ago. She was the mother of fourteen children, seven of whom have died. Those living are Mrs. Lizzie Wallace, Mrs. Katie Brandenburg, Mrs. Jennie Ramsey, Mrs. Martha Derring, B. F., D. D. and Caleb.

There are 41 grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, a total of 142 direct descendants.

Mrs. Davis died on the place she had lived on for sixty years, the old home which she and her husband built still standing on the farm. She had been a faithful mother, and devoted her life to her children and husband. For the past several years her health had been poor, and her passing was not unexpected.

In her death another one of those who helped to settle and develop this county has passed on to her reward, thinning the ranks of these old ones down to almost the last.

While we sympathize with those bereft by her death, we feel like saying to them that they should not grieve because she had served her time faithfully on earth, and was entitled to the rest promised to the faithful in the future life.
