Mary Augusta Shugart Swim Dallas County Pioneer woman, Mrs. Mary A. Swim, 54, wife of S. E. Swim (former Dallas County Justice of Peace), prominent farmer living in West Vernon, died at her home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Tolbert Methodist church with Rev. R. V. Tooley, a former pastor, Rev. Robert E. Dickerson, pastor of the First Methodist Church and Rev. Mr. McGee, pastor of the Methodist Church at Tolbert in charge of the services. Interment will take place in the Tolbert Cemetery. Mrs. Swim, formerly Miss Mary Augusta Shurgart of Pleasant Valley, was married to S. E. Swim in Pleasant Valley on March 24, 1887. Soon after their marriage they moved to Denton county, where they lived for four years. In 1895 they moved to Wilbarger to a place in Farmers Valley where they lived until four years ago when they moved to their present home in West Vernon. Mrs. Swim, united with the Methodist church in childhood and ever afterwards lived in the earnest, consecrated life. A notable trait of this good woman was her unselfishness. She lived a life of service in the home, the community and the church circles in which she moved. She is survived by her husband, eleven children, eleven grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. The children are all here for thefuneral with exception of Robert Swim, who has been spending the winter in California. He will arive Saturday night. The children are: Robert of Santa Barbara, Calif., Sam of Haskell, Tom of Farmers Valley, William of S. M. U., Dallas, Mrs. Nannie Alderson of Tolbert, Earl of Vernon, Mrs. Ada Doss of Lamesa, Miss May of S. M. U., and Ray, Ruby and Leslie of Vernon. Mrs. Swim, while not having leived here for many years, was reared near Pleasant Valley and still had many firends. In response to the message of her death relatives here hastened to her home. Maze, Earl and R. A. (Shugart) with Clyde, a nephew, and Mrs. Guy McCallum, sister, dirving through Wed. night. Mrs. Noomy Harris of Garland, Mrs. Lula Kelley of Mills County were unable to go. Another brother Walter of Alverado was also present for the funeral. |
