Sumners, Anna C.

CONGRESSMAN'S MOTHER DIES IN ATLANTA

Mrs. Anna Catherine Sumners, Dallas County pioneer woman and mother of Congressman Hatton W. Sumners, died late Thur. at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Willie Davis in Atlanta, Ga.

Congressman Sumners was notified of his mother's illness Wed. and hastened to Atlanta, arriving at her bedside shortly before her death. He notified Dallas relatives Fri. morning that the remains would be sent to Dallas and would arrive here Sunday morning over the Tex. and Pacific. Interment will be in Garland where she resided for many years.

Mrs. Sumners was born 77 years ago in Pulaski, Tenn. and at the age of 21 married Capt. William A. Sumners of the Confederate army, who had organized a troop of volunterrs in Tennessee at the outbreak of the Civil war.

Three children were born to the couple, Hatton W., Mrs. Kate and Dr. Tully Sumners of Navada, TX. In 1886 the family removed to Texas, settling in Garland, where Captain Sumners resided until about 25 yrs. ago, when he retired from farming pursuits and removed to Dallas.

Besides her children, she is survived by a brother, Dr. T. S. Walker, and three sisters, Mrs. Wyatt of Fort Worth, Mrs. A. J. Beaner (should be Beaver) of Garlnad, and Mrs. Tom Thorpe of Dallas.
