Joplin, Uncle Eli

Apple Wagon Operator
January 1, 1927

Uncle Eli Joplin, who for years had run an apple wagon about the Garland community, died Saturday at the home of his brother, J. D. Joplin, in Lewisville. He was stricken with paralysis about a week or more before losing the use of his right hand. He was confined to his bed for about a week before the end came. His wife died 22 years ago and was buried at Rowlett.

He is survived by three children. They are J. O. Joplin of Merkel, Mrs. Lizzie Booth of Reinhardt and Mrs. Velia Williams of Lewisville. His brother, J. D. and a sister in Lebanon, Tennessee also survive.

Uncle Eli settled near Garland and Rowlett when he came to Texas from Tennessee and has been known by the old timers as an honest man all these years. He was 68 years old. Funeral services were held at the Mills Cemetery by the pastor of the Rowlett Baptist Church, where burial followed.
